The Beat Goes On

I am inspired by music and always play music while I work. I also like to watch live bands and photograph the performance. In this piece i was able to capture the energy of the percussionist and wanted to explore it visually. There is the flow of the rhythm represented in black which anchors the high energy of the music without constraining the musician. Without the anchor beat, the piece would have descended into chaos. A secondary level of unexpected changes in the rhythm brings life to the work. I used the highlights, cords and stands to interrupt the flow of the piece. The stage had warm color walls and curtains which recalls my overall feeling of the night. I have such great memories of the experience and hope is that the viewer feels it as well.
