My art is often influenced by emotions or other character concepts. The piece "What Lies Beneath" is really more of an abstract self portrait. On the surface I tend to be very level headed, good in a crisis, and unmoved by life's daily challenges, but that is not all there is to me. There is so much more under the surface. I do believe it's a strength to be level headed, but the down side is lack of vulnerability.
I started writing an art blog to help share a part of myself that is very personal. This piece reminds me that I need to show more of what is under the surface. Some of it's good, some not so good. It's not easy to expose my feelings, but I've form many strong deep friendships that have lasted decades when I've chosen to reveal who I am underneath. True, sometimes I've been hurt by people, but the deepest friendships I've gained have been worth the risk.
